ACM Irelewuyi Assumes Office As Zone RS2 Commanding Officer, Pledges Operatives Visibility On Major Corridors

The new Zonal Commanding Officer to coordinate and supervise all activities of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Lagos and Ogun states, in person of Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Adeoye Irelewuyi has assumed duty at the Zonal Command in Lagos.
He resumed at the Zonal Headquarters in Lagos on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. He was warmly welcomed by Lagos State Sector Commander, CC Ganiyu Kehinde Hamzat, his Ogun counterpart, CC Akinwunmi Fasakin and the Zone’s other senior officers.
ACM Irelewuyi began his official duty with the inspection of quarter guard.
Speaking shortly after in-house meeting with the Zone’s senior personnel, he urged motorists to be safety conscious, avoid overloading, speeding and dangerous and drunk driving as the last minutes rushing hours on ember months is around the corner, noting that FRSC mandate is to create safe motoring environment for the road users.
ACM Irelewuyi, said the zone is ready to deploy more personnel and vehicles to enhance visibility in critical corridors. Visibility reduces crashes, because the drivers will be cautioned knowing they will see FRSC personnel on every 10 kilometres.
The ZCO reiterated his commitment to public education, rescue of victims of road traffic victims and strict enforcement of traffic rules.
“The mandate we were given is a very clear one to reduce road traffic crashes in Zone 2 and one of the strategy to adopt is to make our operatives more visibility on all critical corridors of the zone. In addition to that we also plan to increase our public enlightenment because as we all know human factor is the highest causes of road traffic crashes. By intensifying much on public enlightenment would have much impact in reduction of RTC. Our enlightenment would target on drivers which is the human being that drives vehicles.
“To complement the strategy, this zone is ready to put pressure on Ogun Command because of the proximity of highway between the state and Lagos. There is no doubt Lagos axis has the highest vehicular movement in the federation.
“I will begin movement round all the critical corridors within my jurisdiction to ensure all FRSC personnel are visible on the road, displaying professionalism with utmost discipline. I will also ensure no one is hindering the free-flow of traffic either by vehicle owners or traders.
“We would use both the state and federal laws to enforce road traffic rules and regulations. We will also continue to leverage on our existing partnership with other sister agencies including other relevant stakeholders to ensure discipline on our roads,” ACM Irelewuyi, added.
He assured members of the public that FRSC would always be ready to respond positively on rescue operations and also partner with all stakeholders to ensure a safe road culture in the zone.
He called on the patrol men to shun bribery and that machinery will be put in place to apprehend those FRSC personnel that compromise on their duties, warning that both bribe takers and givers will be prosecuted accordingly.
ZCO Irelewuyi, admonished drivers and vehicle owners not to patronize touts in securing driving licence and vehicle number plates.
He also called on all staff to be dedicated to their duties. Reward and Punishment of the Present administration of the Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed would be fully pursued.
