Dangote Debunks Report Of NNPC Lifting Petrol From Refinery

The Dangote Group has debunked reports claiming that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has begun lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from its Dangote Petroleum Refinery. This clarification came after a headline published by “BusinessDay” on September 4, 2024, alleged that NNPC had lifted petrol from the refinery and was selling it at N897 per litre.

In a press statement signed by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote, the company firmly denied the report, stating that no petrol lifting had commenced from their refinery. “NNPC has not commenced lifting of refined Premium Motor Spirit from our Dangote Petroleum Refinery,” the statement read.

The company emphasized that the contract between NNPC and Dangote regarding the lifting of PMS is still under negotiation, making any discussions about pricing premature. “The issue of fixing the price of petrol lifted from our refinery does not arise, as we are yet to finalize our contract with NNPC,” Chiejina clarified.

Furthermore, the Dangote Group highlighted that the PMS market is regulated by government authorities, and as such, they do not have the power to determine or influence the product’s pricing.

Dangote urged the public to disregard the misleading headline, reiterating its commitment to providing high-quality petroleum products across Nigeria once operations begin.
