TRACE Declares Readiness To Partner Stakeholders To Train Company Drivers

Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has disclosed its readiness to partner critical stakeholders and corporate organizations in organizing training for drivers.
TRACE Commander and Chief Executive Officer, Cdr Abdulfatai Olaseni Ogunyemi, who disclosed the importance of training and retraining of companies’ drivers maintained that it is highly imperative to enable them (drivers) have adequate knowledge and understanding of highway codes.
“The regular trainings would enable them familiar with all traffic rules – road signs and other safety tips. Many of them were driving on the road with little or no understanding of traffic rules and regulations, and this has taking the lead among factors causing crashes on the roads.”
The Agency’s CEO spoke through Ijoko Unit Commander, Cdr Victoria Temitope Oseni, when she led a team of the Command to organized road safety tips/advocacy at some manufacturing companies which includes ‘ Papilon Plastic Ltd; Regal Plastic Industrial Ltd; Modupe Folaria Company Ltd, and many other commercial pack and garages in Sango-Ijoko in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
She said: “We educate them on safety tips that guaranteed safer road and fuller lives. Majority of drivers do not know neither to interpret the highway codes. Many of them that even have little knowledge about it were adamant of obeying it whenever they were behind the wheels.
“The primary objective of training drivers frequently is to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for defensive and safe driving to enhancing their productivity.
“Training and retraining them (drivers) would in no doubt have positive impact in road traffic crash reduction. It encompasses a wide range of topics, including traffic rules and regulations, vehicle maintenance, road signs and markings, speed limits, lane discipline, accident prevention and management, passenger rights and responsibilities, as well as communication skills,” Cdr Oseni, added.
TRACE is appealing to drivers to adopt defensive driving culture and observe all safety rules and regulations while on the road.
She cautioned Motorists against making and answering calls while driving, adding that TRACE would always have zero tolerance to route violation (one-way drive), recklessness, drunk driving, obstructions, and assaulting personnel on duty. She reaffirmed that the agency would not hesitate to try and prosecute any offender found guilty of traffic rules.
Cdr Oseni also said TRACE would not relent from visiting religious homes and motor parks to enlighten the people on various road safety measures. “We will continue to vising schools and colleges to introduce safety tips to enable pupils and students learn road safety measures from the cradle,” she concluded.
