Achieving Mandate: FRSC Set To lunch phone Apps To Determine Black Spots, Alert Crashes On Highways

In its bid of achieving the strategic goals, of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed has disclosed the agency’s plan to lunch a phone application that would show black spots and alert crash portions ahead while travelling on highways.
He said this is among the strategic plan of achieving the maximum reduction of road traffic crash with zero fatality should anyone occurred, adding that the Corps has been working tirelessly to achieve zero tolerance for death when crashes occurs on the road.
The FRSC boss noted that holistic approach would be applied to road environment as human being were vulnerable and crashes shouldn’t result to death or permanent injury when anyone eventually occurred.
Mohammed disclosed this on a press conference at Zone RS2 Public Enlightenment Hall im Lagos State. In attendance at the event were: Lagos and Ogun Zonal Commanding Officer, ACM Jonathan Owoade, Lagos Sector Commander, CC Patrick Davou, the Corps Public Enlightenment Officer, CC Olusegun Ogungbemide and other senior officers of the agency.
Speaking further, the FRSC boss said the phone Apps would be a one stop shop where all the Agency’s products and directives would be easily access.
According to him, the Corps is working on technology safety system where the operation will be rigid and reposition with strategic partnership with other sisters agencies.
“The phone Apps will serve as one stop shop where motorists can visit instead of going to the website.
“The Apps will show and give significant informations about the road black spots and alert any crashes spots ahead while travelling. The system will inform and remind the users the due date to renew their drivers licence, service their vehicles and other notable informations.
“We are presently leveraging on technology, with electronic booking and administration to reduce cost and paper work and use of body cameras for our personnel,” the Corp Marshal said.
According to him, FRSC, being a leading agency in traffic management would continuously deep in it’s approach to work on “Safety roads, Vehicles, Safer Road Users and Post Crash Care”, saying all these approaches will tackle challenges and reposition road culture to safer standard.
“We will establish a taskforce to tackle the mixed-load challenges where motorists overlord the vehicles with loads and passengers. We will also intensify crash investigation to determine the causes of the accidents at point in time,” Corps Marshal Mohammed, added.
The Corps Marshal also assured that efforts were in place to curtail sales of alcoholic drinks on the road. “The agency would continue to dig-deep in organising various town hall meetings to sensitise community leaders, residents and transport stakeholders on the menace of selling and drinking alcohol on the road.
He said FRSC would continue to seek wider collaboration state governors including stakeholders in both private and public sector on the task of keeping Nigerian roads save. And part of what to make the road more safe for motoring public is evacuation of highway traders that are blocking almost 70 per cent of the highways making it difficult for vehicles to manoeuvre should any case of brake failure. This single factor always resulted in fatal and serious injuries should crash occurred.
Mohammed said the Corps was fully committed to fulfill it’s mandatory duty to safeguard the road against crashes and that his administration was committed to playing critical role towards the realisation of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu, on safer road agenda.
In his proactive step towards entrenching ease of doing business, quality assurance and customer satisfaction, Corps Marshal Mohammed immediately he was appointed as the new Corps Marshal and chief executive officer of the FRSC, paid working visit to Drivers License Capture Centres, Road Signage and Number Plates production plants as well as the Print Farm to ascertain the contemporary challenges confronting the workings of the production plants and capture centres.
During the visit, he assured motoring public of his administration’s commitment towards the enhancement of quality service delivery on all FRSC products and services with a view of addressing any backlog challenges.
The FRSC boss however, advised the motorists to drive safely and abide by the traffic rules and regulations to avoid crashes on the road.
He therefore seeks the support and cooperation of the general public as the Corps puts in more efforts to deliver its mandate.
The approval of Shehu Mohammed as FRSC boss was contained in a letter by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume dated May 20, 2024.
His appointment took effect on Monday, May 20, and will last for an initial period of four years.
