In an effort to curb the high rate of fatality in Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) which is the Core mandate of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogere Unit Command on Thursday, June 6, 2024, organised a public enlightenment/mega rally to educate the truck or trailer drivers who derived joy in conveying animals with goods and humans together from the Northern part of the Country to avoid loss of lives should accident occurred.
The laudable event, according to Ogere Unit Commander, ACC Tola Ogundipe, was carried out in compliance with Ogun State Sector Commander, CC Anthony Uga’s directive on the prohibition of vehicles conveying animals with goods and humans together from one point to the other.
Worried by this ugly trend, ACC Ogundipe reiterated FRSC’s commitment in continuous collaboration with every other relevant stakeholders to curb this practice, saying it has become very imperative because of the level of its damaging to human lives and society development.
“To reverse the trend, the Sector Commander had instructed all the Commands under his watch to set up joint task forces to impound trailers and trucks carrying goods, humans and animals together and any driver caught should be prosecuted while his vehicle impounded in accordance with court order,” ACC Ogundipe, added.
CC Uga in his address, commended the conduct and impressive turnout of the stakeholders to the rally. He explained the danger in loading animals, goods and humans together in a vehicle, and the need to promptly nip it in the bud.
He noted that it was necessary for agencies like the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Army, and Vehicle Inspection Officers among others to collaborate with FRSC to curb the menace.
CC Uga described road traffic crash as avoidable but nonchalant attitude of drivers who didn’t bothered about simple traffic rules causes crashes on the road. He, therefore tasked motorists to always maintain safe speed, observe all traffic rules and regulations to enhance safety of life and property on the highway.
The event was held at Alesh Ogere. It was graced with the attendance of Area Commander Sagamu, DCC Eluka; Corridor Commander 1, DCC Olusoga Oseni; Police; Ogere Trailer Park personnel; Seriki Hausawa Iperu, Alhaji Kabiru Adamu; Unit Co-ordinator Special Marshals Babcock, representatives of NSCDC Iperu Ogere Division, Park Managers from Aliko Oil, AA Rano; Samsung Park, Kwakyama; Trailer Park; Dangote Sugar and AY Shafa Park.
Attendees in their various Goodwill messages, expressed appreciation towards the successful of the campaign and also charged members of the public from committing traffic regulations that could lead to road traffic crash.
