Mobile Court: FRSC Prosecutes 20 Motorists For Violating Traffic Rules In Ogun

No fewer than 23 road traffic offenders were arrested and prosecuted for violating different offences in a mobile court organised by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at Tollgate, along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ota, Ogun State.
The exercise was presided over Magistrate B.O. Ilo.
20 of the offenders, according to Ota Acting Unit Commander of FRSC Chief Route Commander (CRC) Wasiu Ogunmefun, were convicted while three were discharged, noting that the exercise will continue to hold periodically to bring sanity on the roads.
“23 offenders were arrested prosecuted for violating different traffic offences. 20 were convicted and asked to pay fine depending on the level of their offences.
“Their offences include overloading, over-speeding, use of expired tyres and failure to install speed limit device.
“This exercise had became imperative following the recklessness of some motorists that had brought about the untimely death of innocent citizens mostly on this Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
“Mobile Court is to open doors for summary trials of road traffic offenders to avoid delays in their prosecution. The exercise would serve as deterrent to other motorists who derive joy in violating traffic rules and regulations.
“Motorists need to change their attitude towards the use of roads for it to be safe for everyone. The exercise would be a continued exercise and would be holding periodically to bring sanity, especially on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and its environs.
“It’s our hope and belief that after this exercise, the traffic road crash will be reduced to the barest minimum and save travellers from untimely death and hurt,” CRC Ogunmefun, said.
Commenting on the exercise, a bus driver, Abdulfatai Popoola, who was prosecuted and fined, said though he was found guilty, he believed it was for the good of his life and those of his passengers.
He commended FRSC for the exercise, saying it will go a long way in raising the consciousness of drivers on safe driving to stay alive.
