TRACE Cautions Motorists Against Reckless Driving, Route Violation
2 min readBy OLALEKAN AYENI– In its bid of maintaining a safer road for all users, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has cautioned motorists against disobedience to traffic rules and regulations.
The agency’s Corps Commander/Chief Executive Officer, Cdr Abdulfatai Olaseni Ogunyemi, frowned as some drivers still violating the established traffic laws by driving above the approved speed limit and route violations despite repeating warnings and cautions on this indisciplines.
According to the road traffic management expert, traffic crashes contributed immensely to the economy downfall in the country. “I am appealing to motorists, tricyclists and motorcyclists to desist from recklessness and have attitudinal change towards the use of road.
“The drivers must be conscious while driving and avoid reckless speeding, especially at crowded areas, to avoid any form of road accident.
Cdr Ogunyemi made the appealing in reactions to accidents that killed four people while three others sustained serious injuries in two different crashes that occurred at tollgate in Ota, along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, in few hours interval.
One of the ugly incidents, according to the report from the traffic management agency occurred at about 9pm on Tuesday, when a Dangote Truck with registration number KNN788YA inbound Lagos, lost control after a failed brake and veered off the road to a number of lockup shops in the ever busy expressway.
Two females and a male person died instantly, while two others sustained degree of injuries. The victims, INFORMATION CARRIER gathered were either traders or passengers waiting for vehicle at the bus stop.
He said the truck’s driver with full loaded of cement, escaped unhurt.
The second crash it was learnt occurred at the same tollgate on Wednesday morning at about 9.50am, involving a DAF Blue truck marked KTG942YG and a Boxer Low-bed truck with registration number AAB509XZ and a motorcycle.
The two trucks inbound Lagos were driving on their normal route before the motorcyclist, popularly known as ‘okada rider’ who was riding against traffic rammed into one of the trucks.
The motorcycle rider died instantly while another passenger in one of the trucks was badly injured.
While commiserating with deceased familes, warned articulated vehicles’ drivers to regulate, control their speed and ensure their vehicles are in good conditions before embarking on a journey and as well desist from driving against traffic.
Cdr Ogunyemi reiterated the commitment of the agency in continuous road safety enlightenment, saying lives of people are more important to the agency.
“Am calling on other major transport stakeholders to join hands with the TRACE to save lives on the road,” he urged.
