Ember Months: TRACE embarks on Public Enlightenment Campaign in Ogun
2 min readThe Ota Divisional Command of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has embarked on rigorous campaign against all indiscipline causing gridlocks and crashes within Ado/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
The campaign, which led by the command’s Divisional Commander, Cdr Victoria Olaoke was in line with the directives of the Corps Commander and Chief Executive, Cdr Olaseni Ogunyemi, that all commands should embarked on public campaign that could definitely reduced the traffic crashes and ease gridlocks on the roads.
Cdr Olaoke preached against dangerous driving, excess speed, overloading, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving mechanical deficiency vehicles on the road.
She discouraged Nigerians from the beliefs that there’s evils sucking bloods on roads during ember months. She said bad attitude and disobedience to traffic rules responsible for the crashes on roads during ember months and after.
Commander Olaoke reminded motorcycle riders, popularly known as Olokada, of the need to always use crash helmet for the safety of their heads and car owners to fasten their belts, avoid unnecessary distractions while behind the wheel.
She warned motorists against hazard parking and street traders were seriously cautioned against displaying their goods on the roads, saying these caused a lot of havoc on the roads.
The Divisional Commander extended her appealing to pedestrians to always considered their safety while making use of the roads, adding that no pedestrian expected to back traffic while on the road.
She urged the road transport unions to adequately support the agency’s efforts in curbing the road traffic menace. She reminded them on the need to give peace a chance and avoiding carrying or dropping passengers on the road as that usually responsible for the intractable traffic hold-up on the axis, causing obstruction for other road users.
Responding, one of the union executives, at Oju-Ore, Omoba Ahmed Dosumu, pleaded with the government authorities to provide wide parks and garages for commercial vehicles, saying Oju-Ore Roundabout is too narrow to accommodate voluminous human and vehicular movement, which causes serious traffic issue.
The campaign began from everbusy Oju-Ore on Idiroko expressway to Sango under-bridge and ended in tollgate along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
