EMBER MONTHS: FRSC Calls For Total Obedient To Traffic Rules

2 min read
The Idiroko Unit Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), ACC Akinwunmi Olaluwoye, has again, pleaded with road users, especially the motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules as only way to reduce crashes during the ember months and beyond.
He discouraged Nigerians from the believing that ember months are evil months, characterised by road traffic crash occurrences.
He disclosed this while flagging of the Unit Command’s ember months campaign in Idiroko with the theme: “Avoid Speeding, Overloading, and Unsafe Tyres to Arrive Alive”.
He said disobedience to road traffic rules, which often referred to as human errors takes the lead among the three factors responsible for crashes on the road.
“There is nothing negative or evil about these months, except that we usually witness a high volume of movement and increase in human activities, occasioned by various ceremonies and largely celebrated festivals such as the Christmas and New Year.”
FRSC, being the leading agency saddled with the responsibility of making highway more safer for the users has made it a point of duty and mandatory to call attention of road users to the importance of obeying traffic rules during the last quarter of the year, popularly known as ’ember months’ to prevent unnecessary lost of lives and property.
“There is need for a robust campaign, targeted at increasing awareness on safe road practices to achieve zero or minimal road accidents,” ACC Olaluwoye, added.
He admonished road users to always be careful and be safety conscious while on highways. Perhaps, motorists are expected to avoid excessive speed, fatigue, use of worn-out tyres, overloading, wrongful overtaking and drunk driving, as these are the only solutions to minimize traffic crashes during the ’ember months’ and beyond.
