Gov Abiodun Seeks School Principals’ Involvement Road Traffic Advocacy

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has directed that all school principals across the state should be inducted as Mayors in the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).
The governor made the pronouncement on Wednesday at the hosting, by Ogun State, of the Southwest Zone of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), South West zone, in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The Deputy Governor, Engr (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, in implementing the executive order of the governor, immediately decorated four school principals with reflective jackets at the occasion.
The theme of the programme is: “Mandatory continuing professional training. Emerging administration and management innovation and techniques for handling contemporary issues”, with the main duty of divulging traffic safety education down the line in the state’s secondary schools.
According to the governor, the principals after training would also compliment the activities of the state’s traffic management to train other teachers, students and ensuring safety while crossing the road.
He said the exercise was part of the state government’s strategy aimed at reducing the carnages causing traffic crashes on the road.
The governor attributed lack of adequate knowledge of students while crossing the road as part of challenges causing traffic crashes on the road, ordering that decoration of the remaining principals with reflective jackets, be done quickly, while pledging his administration’s unalloyed support for the association.
The governor admonished teachers to fully participate in road traffic campaigns, training of teachers and students on all the rules and regulations that guide the use of road.
In her welcome address, the ANCOPSS’ state President, Dr (Mrs Womiloju Ayodele had solicited assistance of the TRACE Agency in training teachers and principals in schools in traffic control to curb accidents involving school pupils.
In attendance were Governor Abiodun; Deputy Governor, Engr (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele; the state’s commissioners; Permanent Secretaries, TRACE Corps Commander/CEO, Commander ‘Seni Ogunyemi, and other government functionaries across the state.
