EXCLUSIVE: OOU Mass Communication Lecturer buries Mum In Grand Style
2 min readBy OLALEKAN AYENI – The Isale Ariya in Adalemo of Ado/Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, was on Saturday, June 11, 2022, agog following the influx of personalities from all walks of life that present as a senior lecturer in the department of Mass Communication at Olabisi Onabanjo University(OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Dr Lanre Akinola, buried his mum, Senior Mother-in-Israel Olufunmilola Tolanikawo Akinola (nee Sotoyinbo) in grand style.
Apart from the personalties that present at the ceremony the community also turned to tourist attraction as it witnessed unusual coloufull and huge crowd.
The three days event which began from Friday – Sunday, featured lying-in-state, Christian wake-keep, burial and thanksgiving amidst encomium.
Late Mrs Akinola who was popularly called ‘Iya Agege’ was laid to rest at her compound, 2, Alhaja Nimota Idera Crescent, Isale Ariya in Adalemo area.
She died a day to her 80th birthday – June 2, 1942 – June 1, 2022 after a brief illness.
Mama, being a true Christian and believer of words of God has secured all documents to join thousands of others to visit the Holy Land of Jerusalem this year to become Jerusalem Pigrimage (JP) as part of activities to celebrate her 80th birthday.
“She was supposed to celebrate her 80th birthday in an elaborate way on June 7. We’re planning a big birthday celebration for her.
“Apart from the birthday, we have concluded arrangements for her to visit the Holy Land of Jerusalem to become a Jerusalem Pigrimage (JP).
“We did everything possible for her to overcome the sickness but unfortunately she lost the battle to Almighty God.
“I was highly confused and devastated when I received the news of her shocking death, while I was driving, but thank God it didn’t lead to an accident.
“My mother’s death is memorable. She is a very unique mother. A virtuous woman, disciplinarian and a great philanthropist. We loved her but God loved her most. Rest in peace my mother,” Dr Akinola said while bidding her mum fare journey to Almighty God.
