MAY 1ST TRAGEDY: Four Die In Early Crash On Lagos Third Mainland Bridge

The Lagos State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) CC Olusegun Ogungbemide, has admonished motorists to always be mindful of the status of their vehicle’s tyres and as well avoid excessive speed while behind the wheel.

This was contained in a statement signed by Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi while giving details of the early morning crash that occurred at Adekunle inter-change end of Third Mainland Bridge.

The crash, according to the statement, occured on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at about 0550hrs (5:50am) when a Toyota Hiace with registration number FST 241 YC grey colour, coming from Adekunle inter-change inward Iyana-oworo had a tyre burst while on speed and somersaulted with 20 occupants (9 Male, 11 female).

Five of the occupant, the statement revealed sustained injuries, while 3 female adults were confirmed dead at the spot. The additional one female died at the Hospital when the FRSC team went for follow-up at General Hospital, Marina.

All first responders at the scene comprising FRSC, Nigeria Police, LASTMA and LASEMA Rescue Unit rescued the injured victims, and the corpses were taken to General Hospital Marina.

The crashed vehicle has been taken off the location.

FRSC and LASTMA officials are on ground managing traffic.

The Sector Commander assured all motorists of adequate deployment of personnel and logistics for crash free Eid-El-Fitri celebration.

He admonished motorists to always adhere to speed limits for all categories of road at all times because “Speed Thrills but kills faster” .
