PECAN reiterates commitment to eradicate quack pest controllers
2 min readThe Lagos State Chapter of Pest Control Association of Nigeria (PECAN) has vowed to engage in everything possible to eradicate the operations of quack pest controller in the state and Nigeria at large.
The Lagos association’s president, Olakunle Williams who disclosed this at their annual general meeting with the theme: “Quackery in Pest and Vector Management – A Threat to Public Health and Environmental Development”, said the group will not henceforth allowed unqualified pest controller activities because of its dangers to human health and environments.
The two-day events began with road walk to Lagos Government Secretariat and entire Ikeja, with the aim of sensitising the public on dangers of patronising quack fumigators, saying “quack pest controller is someone operating without a qualified certificate and documentation.”
“You will agree with me that if there’s any time we need to fight quacks and their evil works, this is the right time!
“The 2021 AGM Committee under the chairmanship of Mr Taiwo Oluyemi has come up with this fantastic theme in order for us to be awakened to the need for everyone to be proactive in making sure this menace of quackery is ended once and for all.
“This group has come up with different strategies to be adopted in addressing this problem of quackery, part of which is training which this 2021 AGM would give.
“I believe quacks wherever they may be, will avail themselves the window of opportunity by embracing the olive branch being extended to them by the PECAN for them to come for Trainings so that they can stop their evil works before the long arm of the law catches up with them,” Mr Williams, said.
He encouraged all members of the association to be in the same spirit in fighting the war against the quackery in the profession.
He thanked Oonirisa, the Arole Oduduwa, his imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife for deemed it fit to personally donated a Modular Fumigator to the Association as a way of curbing the spread of the COVID 19 Virus in the country.
“This we cannot, but appreciate you, our Royal Majesty, for your magnanimity in seeing PECAN as your baby to nurture to greatness. We promise not to let you down. We want to let you know here that after the donation of the Modular Fumigator, the Association has acquired a GMC Truck which is been used to convey it to anywhere we want to use it for decontamination and fumigation,” Mr Williams concluded.
