Ogun FRSC Special Marshals hold 2021 Sectoral Workshop

By OLALEKAN AYENI – The Ogun State Special Marshals of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has held her 2021 sectoral workshop with the theme: “Volunteerism beyond ember months; role of Special Marshals in combating road traffic crashes” in Valley View Auditorium, Government House in Isale Igbein, Abeokuta.
The event which drew all members of both Regulars and Special Marshals across the state including other stakeholders in road safety sub-sector in view of fostering solutions to road safety which is everyone’s concern.
Speaking at the event, RS2 Zonal Commander, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Peter Kibo commended Special Marshals for the voluntary work they are doing to save lives and properties on the road.
“As we all know that Secial Marshals is the second tier of FRSC, volunteered organisation that is resolving selfless service to humility.
“They are proven men and women of integrity that have volunteered their service energy, time and resources to end carnages in Nigeria roads’.
“I commended Ogun State Special Marshal, they have performed wonderfully well,” ACM Kibo said.
He appealed to Special Marshals to double their performances especially in area traffic control, public enlightenment and enforcement during this ember months and beyond to enable the Corps achieve its target in reduction of road traffic crashes.
“Always cooperate with Regular Marshals and other law enforcement agencies, continue operate within the ambit of constitution and ethics that guided Special Marshals’ operation,” ACM Kibo advised.
Also speaking at the event, Ogun State Sector Commander, CC Ahmed Umar, urged Special Marshals to continue sustain the enforcement of traffic regulations and innovate means of making it more effective.
“Enforcement by Special Marshals, being part and parcel of the community, must address traffic infractions peculiar to certain routes, time of the day, or category of road users.
“Evaluation is vital to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement in any venture. Special Marshals unit coordinators should make it habitual to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of their units on the safety of lives and properties in their communities. Impact assessment at the Unit level would enhance the overall productivity of Special Marshals in the State,” CC Umar, said
He urged the Special Marshals to engage more in joint patrols with the FRSC Regular Marshals and other security agencies to intensify in public enlightenment both in Churches, Mosques, Motor Parks and other public places, frequent mobile court sessions and improved Corps’ visibility in all critical corridors.
The State Coordinator, Elder Solomon Adeniyi, in his welcoming address, thanked the Special Marshals for their huge turnout and involvement in the workshop.
He said the event, aimed at bringing all the special Marshals together, have appraisal and review all their projects so far as they are the second tier of FRSC, urging the Special Marshals to continue embark on strategies that would further reduce road traffic crashes.
He appealed to Special Marshals to increase their cooperation with FRSC Regular officers and evolve in strategies that would further reduce road traffic crashes by 15% and fatality by 20% which is the main target of the Corps.
“Improve personnel capacity and competence in road safety management; Broaden and sustain stakeholders engagement; Reposition, strengthen and sustain road safety programmes; improve communication for the reason of operational effectiveness and continuous relevance. We, as Special Marshals must always key into the strategic corporate goals of the Corps with high level of commitment, good sense of compartment and unparallel integrity,” Elder Adeniyi, urged Special Marshals.
Other stakeholders in attendance include: Governor Dapo Abiodun, ably represented by Senior Special Adviser on security matters, AIG Olushola Subair (rtd), Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) NDLEA, NSCDC, among others.
